BLACK BEAR GOLF CLUB WINS BEST GOLF COURSE AWARD!
Check out LAKE Magazine's website for the release!
Black Bear Golf Club has crafted its greens, tees and fairways well enough to be considered one of the most desirable courses in Florida. In a LAKE Magazine poll, Lake and Sumter county residents voted Black Bear as their preferred golf destination in 2011. Black Bear’s first place finish out of over 45 courses in the area is an exceptional achievement in only 12 months under new ownership. It is the first time Black Bear has won the award in the club’s 16-year history and is testament to the course’s unique layout and conditioning. The award ceremony took place December 19 at Mission Inn where Ken Maltby, long time Head Superintendant at Black Bear, accepted the award on behalf of the club. “This is a wonderful achievement for the Club. It is recognition that all the hard work put in by the Black Bear team over the last year has been recognized and appreciated by our customers. I know our staff will be proud to display this plaque prominently at the Club,” said Maltby. There is a clear message that under new ownership the conditions of not only the course, but the clubhouse and atmosphere at the club will continue to improve. In just 12 months a transformation in quality and structure has elevated this already unique links PB Dye design course to a position comparable with other premier golf locations in Florida. “I believe much of our success over the last year is a result of the new owners’ and managers’ willingness to implement unconventional and outside the box solutions in an industry that is sometimes typified with dated ideas,” said Christina DeParis, Public Relations for Black Bear. An example of this unconventional approach is Black Bear’s recent decision to paint all its twelve practice target greens different colors. “The reaction of customers was instantly positive. We now have made the driving range a fun, colorful talking point,” said DeParis.
